Rivian donates two R1S SUVs to Laguna Beach Marine Safety fleet

Rivian has donated two R1S SUV units to the Laguna Beach Marine Safety fleet. Images of the vehicles show that the R1S units have been outfitted with a variety of equipment that make them ideal for beach patrols and emergency response.  

The donation of the two Rivian R1S SUVs was announced by the electric truck maker in a post on X. As per the electric vehicle maker, the R1S should work as a great vehicle for beach patrols since it is designed to thrive in off-road environments, including sand. The company also noted that it is looking forward to how the R1S units perform in their roles. 

“We, along with Mayor Sue Kempf, are excited about this partnership, underscoring Laguna’s commitment to environmental stewardship and public safety. From routine patrols to rapid-response scenarios, these vehicles will help keep laguna’s coastline safe while treading lightly on the environment. We are proud to support Laguna Beach in setting an example for cities nationwide—one electric mile at a time,” Rivian wrote in its post on X. 

As per a previous report from the Los Angeles Times, the 2025 Rivian R1S starts at $75,900, though this price does not include the modifications that were implemented on the vehicles to make them ideal for Laguna Beach Marine Safety fleet activities. Marine Safety Chief Kai Bond shared his excitement of the vehicles as well.  

“Our team’s mission is to keep our coastline safe for residents and visitors, which demands specialized vehicles that can perform reliably in challenging coastal environments. With the Rivian R1 vehicles, we’re able to enhance our rapid response capabilities in areas like beach patrols and search and rescue, especially in rugged and sandy conditions where other vehicles may fall short,” Bond noted.

Laguna Beach Mayor Sue Kempf also shared her excitement for the the Laguna Beach Marine Safety fleet's two Rivian R1S SUVs.
